Shots fired at boat headed for St Martin's Island

Shots were fired at a speed boat heading from Cox's Bazar's Teknaf to St. Martin's Island. However, there were no casualties in the incident. 

Boat Malik Samity Secretary Syed Alam told the Daily Samakal that a few people from the island went to Teknaf for medical treatment. They were returning to the island on a speed boat on Tuesday. They were passing the Naikkhongdia area on the Naf River at around 10 am when the speedboat was shot at. 

The shots were fired from a small boat. It terrified the speedboat's passengers. However, they managed to reach St. Martin's Island safely. 

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Adnan Chowdhury confirmed the matter. 

"We are talking to the concerned personnel on the border," he said. 

In the past, shots were fired at cargo trawlers and poll officials from the Naikkhongdia area. That area is under the control of Myanmar's rebel Arakan Army. It is suspected that the rebels were behind the shooting incidents.
