8 missing after boat capsizes in Teesta

A boat carrying 26 passengers capsized in the Teesta River in Kurigram on Wednesday evening. A child's body was recovered in the incident while 8 people remain missing. 

The boat capsized near a shoal at the Khamardamar haat area of Bazra union under Ulipur of Kurigram. 17 people were rescued alive. Rescue operations were halted at around 1am and will resume on Thursday morning.

The child was identified as Ayesha, 2, daughter of Azizur Rahman. 

Confirming the matter, Ulipur Police Station Officer in Charge Golam Mortuza said the rescue work became difficult due to strong current in the river.
