150 injured in police attack on SUST students

At least 150 people, including students, were injured when police attacked a procession taken out by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) students in Sylhet. Students claimed that police used tear shells, sound grenades and rubber bullets to attack them. 

The Anti-discrimination Student Movement called for a countrywide “Prayer and Student-People's Mass Procession” on Friday. To observe the programme, SUST students brought out a procession at around 3:30pm. The procession first reached the SUST main gate. From there, they marched towards the city. Police started firing tear shells at the procession when it reached in front of Mount Adora Hospital in Akhalia. Students pitched brickbats at the police in response. After this, police started to move back and fired sound grenades, tear shells, and rubber bullets. 

The attack dispersed the procession, injuring at least 150. The names of the injured could not be confirmed immediately. However, it was found that police detained six protesters from the procession.
