2 Dead, 50 injured in Munshiganj clash

2 people died and at least 50 others were injured in a clash between protesters and Awami League activists at the Thanarpul area in Munshiganj on Sunday. At least five motorcycles were burned in the clash. 

Several rounds of chase and counter-chase took place between students supporting the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the leaders and activists of Awami League starting from 10am on Sunday. The clash continued till 11:30am. Gunshots and bombing noises were heard during the clash. 

Students gathered at the city's Thanarpul area at around 10am. AL activists beat up several students, which started up the clash. Police later gathered in the area to control the situation. 

Munshiganj General Hospital official Abu Hena Mohammad Jamal confirmed that two were dead in the clash. He also confirmed that many injured were also receiving treatment there. Among them, some were shot. 

Sadar Circle Addl. Police Super Thunder Khairul Islam said police is trying to calm the situation.
