80 villages in Feni flooded in heavy rain

Heavy rain and an onrush of water from the upstream of Feni's Muhuri, Kohua, and Silonia rivers have flooded 80 villages in Feni's Porshuram and Fulgazi Upazilas. 

The water level at Muhuri River was flowing 44 cm above the danger mark on Wednesday. According to sources at the Feni district authority and Water Development Board, 310 mm of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours. At least 15,000 families were affected by the flood. The Feni-Fulgazi Regional Highway became inundated in places, stopping vehicle movement. 

Md Monir Ahmed Bhuiyan, an inhabitant of Ghaniamora village of Fulgazi Sadar Union, claimed that this flood was worse than the one he witnessed in 1988. 

"Our houses became inundated. So my family and I had to seek shelter elsewhere."

Feni Water Development Board Executive Engineer Mohammad Rashed Shahariar said, water is entering through 30 broken places in the dam. The dam will be repaired after the flood water recedes. 

Meanwhile, Feni District Commissioner Mst Shahina Akhtar said measures to tackle the situation are being taken through Upazila Nirbahi Officers.
