Water being released from Kaptai dam again

Sixteen spillway gates of the Kaptai Hydropower Plant remain open and water is being released, said the Kaptai Hydropower Plant authority on Monday. 

The water level of Kaptai Lake has been increasing for the last couple of days and crossed the danger level at one point. To manage the water level, spillway gates were opened six inches on Sunday. After releasing water from 8am to 2pm, the water pressure decreased. After six hours, the gates were opened again at around 7:15pm. On Monday too, 6,000 cubic feet of water per second (CFS) water was being released into the Karnaphhuli River every second.

ATM Abduzzaher, manager of Kaptai Hydropower Plant, said that there is no risk of the released water causing a flood downstream.
