Gazi tyre factory fire burning for 15 hours

The fire at the Gazi Tyre Factory in Narayanganj continues to burn for more than 15 hours. The fire could not be controlled till the filing of this report at 12pm on Monday. 

The fire started on the 5th floor of a building in the back of the factory. Locals first notified the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) at around 10:35pm. A total of 11 firefighting units arrived from Demra, Kachpur, Adamzi EPZ, and Kanchan fire stations. Many people became trapped in the factory. 

According to the locals, the factory was being looted after the former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi's arrest.  Some people were still inside the factory when the fire broke out. 

FSCD headquarters media cell official Talha Bin Jashim said dousing the fire and rescuing the people trapped inside has become complicated due to infrastructure issues and the flammable chemicals inside the factory. 

The cause of the fire could not yet be found. The cause and the extent of damage can be known after the fire is brought under control, the official said.
