Four killed in Bagerhat road accident

At least four people were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a battery-run easy bike on the Bagerhat-Khulna highway in Nawapara area under Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district on Monday.

Among the deceased three were identified as Shaukat, 40, Masum, 30 and Nipa, 28, residents of Bagerhat Sadar upazila. The identity of another deceased could not be known.

They were all passengers of the battery-run easy bike.

The accident occurred in the area when a Khulna-bound pickup van hit the battery-run easy bike from the opposite direction around 9:30 am, leaving three passengers of the easy bike dead on the spot and two others critically injured, sub-inspector (SI) of Katakhali Highway Police Station Ashraful Haque said.

The injured were taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.

Later, they were shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment where one of them succumbed to his injuries, the SI said.

The bodies were kept at the Katakhali Highway Police Station, SI added.
