3 killed in Narail road accident

Three persons were killed and another was critically injured in a road accident on the Kalna-Narail-Benapole highway in the Maita Kumra area under the Lohagara upazila of the district early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased were Shamim Sheikh, 20, son of Hemayet Sheikh, Zia Biswas, 45, son of Ramzan Biswas and Russell Molla, 19, son of Jamal Molla. All are residents of Maita Kumra village of the upazila.

Police said Rasel's grandmother had passed away and four people were carrying a stretcher (Khatia) from the mosque to their home to move her body.

As they reached the Maita Kumra area, a truck coming from Lohagara hit the stretcher-bearers.

Three people died on the spot and one was critically injured, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said.

The injured was taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex.

Later, he was shifted to Narail Sadar Hospital for better treatment, the OC said.
