6 dead in Cox's Bazar landslides

A total of six people died in two separate landslides in Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila and Rohingya camp early on Friday. 

Three members of the same family died in the landslide at Dakkhin Dikkul village of Jhilongja Union. The deceased were identified as Akhi Moni, wife of Mizanur Rahman, as well as their two daughters, Miha Jannat Naima, and Latifa Islam.

According to relatives, a loud noise was heard from the direction of Mizanur Rahman's house at around 3am during heavy rain. They rushed to the spot and found the family buried under a landslide. Mizanur Rahman was rescued alive immediately. Cox's Bazar Fire Service members arrived and recovered the bodies of his wife and children around dawn. 

Confirming the matter, Jhilongja Union Parishad's former chairman Gias Uddin Jhiku said Mizan's house was at the foot of a hill. The hill's soil became soft in the heavy rain that started on Thursday afternoon. The landslide occurred after midnight. 

Meanwhile, another landslide occurred at the E-2 block of Rohingya camp number 14. The three deceased were identified as Abdur Rahim, Abdul Hafez, and Abdul Wahed. All three were sons of Kabir Ahmed.
