2 dead, 2 missing in Patenga oil tanker fire

A massive fire erupted on an oil tanker named "Banglar Jyoti" at the Patenga of Chattogram on Monday morning. Two bodies were recovered and two people remain missing in the incident. 

One of the deceased was identified as the vessel's Deck Cadet Sourav. The other body was not possible to identify as it was heavily mangled. Bangladesh Navy Chattogram Area Commander Masud Iqbal confirmed the matter to the media. 

Sea Man Association Chairman Abdul Wadud said Foreman Nurul Islam and Casual Staff Harun are still missing. 

The tanker is an old vessel owned by the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) which was anchored at the Dolphin Jetty area of Eastern Refinery on the Karnaphuli River. 

The oil-laden tanker reached the jetty at around 11am. An explosion occurred while the oil was being unloaded, which started the fire. 

A total of eight units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, as well as members of the Navy and Air Force, are now working to control the blaze.
