Journalist hacked to death in Mymensingh

A local journalist has been hacked to death in Tanpara area of Majhipara in Shambhuganj Bazar of Mymensingh city on Saturday.

The victim was identified as Swapon Bhadra, 65, son of late Jogesh Chandra Bhadra, police said.

Swapon was a vice president of Tarakanda upazila Press Club in Mymensingh.

Earlier, he worked for the daily Doinik Swajan as Tarakanda upazila correspondent.

Jewel Bhadra , nephew of the victim, said Swapon was walking near his house around 11:30am. On all a sudden, a 18-year-old alleged drug addict, also a drug peddler of the same locality, hacked him indiscriminately with a sharp weapon.

Critically injured, Swapon was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Jewel added.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, police detained the attacker in the afternoon for his alleged involvement in the killing.

Swapon used to write regularly about various events and issues of the area on the social media Facebook.

Family members of the deceased alleged that Swapon might be killed for writing on social platform. He was also attacked a year ago.
