Man accused of theft killed by mob in Kushtia

A man was beaten to death on allegations of theft early on Sunday at Kushtia. 

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, 28, of Kedarnagar village of Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga, Mirpur Police Station Officer in Charge Mostofa Habibullah confirmed. 

According to eyewitnesses and police, some thieves entered the house of Amirul Islam at Natun Sutail village of Ambaria Union in Mirpur upazila at around 2am on Sunday. The residents of the house became alert and raised alarm, causing the thieves to flee. Locals arrived and caught Jahangir from a field nearly. He was beaten to death. 

Regarding the matter, Amirul Islam said the other thieves looted cash and gold from the house. 

Local UP member Sazib Ahmed said police were investigating the matter.
