Dr Shahadat takes oath as CCC mayor

BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain was sworn in as the mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry Adviser AF Hassan Arif administered the oath. 

Shahadat Hossain took his oath at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.

After taking oath, the new mayor will visit the mazar of BNP founder and former Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to pay tribute. Shahadat is scheduled to return to Chattogram on November 5 to formally take charge, Maruful Haque Chowdhury, personal secretary of Dr. Shahadat, said. 

Touhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of CCC, told BSS that the authorities are preparing to receive the new mayor at the CCC office on November 5 in Chattogram.

The office of the city mayor was decorated and an introduction meeting was arranged at the CCC conference room at 10 am on November 5.  

Earlier, the Election Tribunal in Chattogram declared former BNP city unit president Dr Shahadat Hossain as the mayor-elect of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) in a case filed by him seeking cancellation of 2021 election results.

Election Tribunal judge as well as joint district and sessions judge Mohammad Khairul Amin handed down the verdict on October 1 this year.

Dr Shahdat, the former BNP nominated mayoral candidate for the CCC election, filed the case on February 24, 2021, for widespread electoral fraud and several other vote rigging incidents.
