Man dies at Tongi Jor Ijtema

An elderly man died on the second day of 'Jor Ijtema' (a preparatory event of the Biswa Ijtema) on the bank of the Turag river at Tongi on Saturday. 

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim Akand, 72, from Dulali Village of Nagarkanda Thana under Faridpur district. Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh Shurai Nejam (Media Coordinator) Habibullah Raihan confirmed the matter. 

The five-day event started on Friday after the Fazr prayer with the general sermon delivered by the Pakistani cleric Nayeem Shah. 

The Jor Ijtema, which usually takes place 40 days before the Biswa Ijtema starts, will end on December 3.

A large number of followers of Tablighi-Jammat and religious scholars from different parts of the country have started to arrive at the Ijtema place.

The followers of Maulana Jobair participated in the first phase of the Jor Ijtema. Then, the followers of Maulana Saad will participate in the second phase from December 20 to 24.

The first phase of the Biswa Ijtema which will be attended by the followers of Maulana Jobair, will begin on January 31 and it will end on February 2.

The second phase of the Biswa Ijtema attended by the followers of Maulana Saad Ahmed will begin on February 7 and it will conclude on February 9 with Akheri Munajat.
