Woman shot dead on expressway identified

Police have uncovered the identity of the woman whose bullet-riddled body was found on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway early on Saturday morning. 

Munshiganj Addl Police Superintendent (Crime) Firoz Kabir said the woman's name is Shahida Begum. The 24-year-old woman used to live in the capital's Wari area with her brother. She used to work at a day-care centre. 

The woman could not be identified using her fingerprint. Police later identified her using her mobile phone. Police are also trying to find who took her to Munshiganj. 

Locals found Shahida's body at the Dogacchi Service Lane area at around 8:30am and informed the police, who recovered the body. 

Police said 5 bullet shells were also found near the body. It is assumed that after killing her, the body was dropped from a running car. 

Locals said, the woman was seen walking accompanied by a man at dawn on Saturday. Pedestrians found her bullet-riddle body a few hours later. 

However, locals could not identify the man who was accompanying her. It also could not be confirmed whether there were any more people involved in the murder. 

Confirming the matter, Srinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury said five gunshot wounds were found on the woman's body. Police are trying to recover CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. Her body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
