Truck accident kills 4 autorickshaw passengers in Gazipur

An autorickshaw was run over by both a covered van and a truck at Gazipur, killing four passengers late on Wednesday. 

The deceased were identified as Saleha Aktar Tuktuki, 26, Imran Hasan Rajon, 38, Md Mamun, 23, and Md Dulal, 42. The accident occured under the flyover at Chandna intersection on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at around 11:30pm. 

Confirming the matter, Bason Police Station Duty Officer SI Kamrul Islam said one of the passengers died on the spot, while three others died on the way to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. 

According to eyewitnesses, the autorickshaw was hit by a truck in front of the Jobeda Tower. The autorickshaw then rammed into the covered van in front of it, causing the casualties. 

The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene after the accident, SI Kamrul said. 

The bodies are kept at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue, the hospital's official Abul Fazal said.
