Fire guts 15 shops in Munshiganj

At least 15 shops were gutted in the Vaterchar area under Gazaria upazila of the district early on Thursday. 

The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of Ali Ahamed Market of the upazila around 3 am and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments, said Rifat Mollik, in-charge of Gazaria Fire Service.

Being informed, a firefighters' unit rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after one hour of efforts, he said.

The extent of the damage of the fire is about Taka one crore, Rifat Mollik said.
