BUET student death in Purbachal: 3 suspects remanded

Three suspects were remanded for two days each in the incident where a student of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) died after being run over by a car in Purbachal. 

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Nur Mohsin gave the order on Sunday. 

Earlier on Friday afternoon, police pleaded to take all three of the suspects on a five-day remand each. 

The deceased BUET student was identified as Muhtasim Masud, 22. Meanwhile, the three arrested were identified as Mubin Al Mamun, 20, Mirajul Karim, 22, and Asif Chowdhury, 19. Police lodged a case against them on Saturday night under the Narcotics Control Act. 

On Friday, after the dope test, Civil Surgeon Dr Mushiur Rahman said the test found alcohol and cannabis in Mubin's body and alcohol in Mirajul's body. However, there was no trace of narcotics in Asif's body. 

Meanwhile, the deceased student's father lodged a case under the Road Transport Act against the three on Friday. 

At around 3am on Friday, a private car ran over the bike carrying Muhtasim, also injuring two people in the accident that occurred at the Purbachal 300-foot Nila Market (Kuril-Kanchan Road) area.
