Woman dies after being burned by husband in Chattogram

A woman died in Chandnaish of Chattogram after her husband doused her in octane and burned her after a family dispute. 

The woman named Nazma Aktar, 20, died at around 3am on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, her brother Md Tareq confirmed. 

Police arrested her husband Abdul Jobbar from the hilly areas of Hashimpur at around dawn. 

The victim's brother lodged a case at the Chandnaish Police Station on Friday night. 

According to family members and locals, Abdul Jobbar and Nazma Aktar had an argument regarding family matters at around 8pm on Friday. Nazma was cooking at that time. Out of anger, Abdul Jobbar doused her in octane. The fire started from the stove and burned Nazma severely. 

Family members first took Nazma to Dohazari Hospital, where the duty doctor referred her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital after first aid. 

Confirming the matter, Dohazari Hospital duty doctor Urmi Chakrabarti told journalists that Nazma sustained 60 per cent burns on her body. 

Chandnaish Police Station Officer in Charge Imran Al Hossain confirmed that Abdul Jobbar was arrested. He will be produced before the court shortly.
