600 sack OMS rice seized in Bagerhat

A total of 600 sacks of rice issued for the government's Open Market Sale (OMS) programme was seized from a warehouse in Keramat ali Market of Fakirhat Upazila under Bagerhat on Wednesday night. 

The rice was recovered from the 'Mojumdar Bhandar' warehouse jointly by Fakirhat Police Station and the Food Warehouse authority. 

During the joint drive, one of the warehouse's owners Ashatit Mojumdar, 21, and staff Abu Rasul, 45, were arrested on charges of stocking and trying to sell rice issued by the government. Each sack contained 30 kilograms of rice. The warehouse bought the entire consignment of rice for the cost of Tk 9 lakh 34 thousand. 

Confirming the matter, Fakirhat Model Police Station Officer in Charge Alamgir Kabir said cases were filed and the two arrested were sent to court.
