Massive fire at Sitakunda continues for 10 hours

A massive fire broke out at an illegal fuel oil shop next to the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Sitakunda around midnight. At least 15 shops were razed to the ground. Six units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) from Kumira, Bayezid, and Agrabad are working to control the fire which continues to burn even after 10 hours have passed. 

Confirming the matter, Kumira FSCD senior official Al Mamun said at around 10am on Monday that though the fire was smaller now, it would take a few more hours to bring it completely under control. 

The fire started shortly after midnight on Sunday, stopping traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of Dhaka-Chattogram Highway for a few hours. 

Locals failed to curb the fire as it spread quickly. On information, four firefighting units reached the spot. They were later joined by two more units. 

According to eyewitnesses, the fire originated from a fuel oil shop. It is assumed that the fire caused nearly Tk 3 crore worth of damage.
