5 die in truck-auto-rickshaw head-on collision

Five people were killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw at Digpai on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway in Sadar upazila at around 7:00 pm on Thursday.

The deceased are CNG driver Abdur Razzak, passengers Enam Fakir, Ariful Islam, Abdul Karim Alal, Alam Mia.

A passenger named Amjad Hossain has been taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries.

Locals said that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw leaving from Madhupur in Tangail district collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound truck, leaving four passengers of auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two injured seriously.

Later, one of the injured people died on the way to the hospital.

The truck driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident.

Senior Station Officer of Jamalpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Rabiul Islam said they rushed on the spot soon after being informed. 

“We recovered the bodies and handed them over to the police,” he added.

He also said that due to the accident, traffic jams were created on both sides of the highway.
