Protesters block Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway after female worker's death

After the death of a female RMG worker, agitated protesters blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at the Vogra Bypass area of Gazipur city. The protesting workers also vandalized a factory and set fire to vehicles. Police and armed forces later brought the situation under control. 

According to workers of the Panorama Apparels Ltd RMG factory, a worker named Laboni became ill while at work. However, the authorities refused to let her leave the work, and she became progressively more ill. She was later brought to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

However, the factory authority and police claim that the worker jumped off the factory roof and committed suicide. 

The deceased worker is named Afsana Aktar Laboni, 30. She used to live with her husband Hridoy in the Harinal area of Gazipur city. 

After Laboni's death, the agitated workers blocked the highway at around 8am on Monday, blocking traffic. At around 9am, they entered the factory and carried out vandalism. They also set fire to two cars and two motorbikes parked in front of the factory.
