Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway blocked after man crushed under minibus

A large number of protesters blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at the Gargaria Masterbari area of Gazipur to demand justice for an auto-rickshaw driver who was allegedly pushed out of a minibus and crushed to death under its wheels. 

Family members and co-workers of the deceased man blocked the highway from 8am on Tuesday, calling for proper punishment of those involved in the incident. After nearly 3.5 hours of blockade, a 10 km-long tailback was created on the road. 

According to the protesters, a rickshaw puller named Riton Miah engaged in a verbal spat with the helper of a Takwa Paribahan bus on Monday night. At one point, he was pushed off the vehicle and killed. 

Confirming the matter, Mawna Highway Police Station Officer in Charge Ayub Ali said efforts are underway to bring the situation under control.
