RMG workers lift Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway blockade after 4hrs

RMG factory workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway to demand due wages on Tuesday morning. They lifted the blockade four hours later. 

Workers started their protests at around 7am in the Hossain Market area of Tongi. 

As per the workers, the BHIS Apparels Ltd factory employs nearly 1,300 people. Their due payments were scheduled to be cleared on Monday. However, the authorities left the factory in secret that day. On Tuesday, the workers found the factory closed indefinitely, prompting the protest and blockade. 

Confirming the matter, Gazipur Industrial Police-2 Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam said they are trying to solve the matter. 

Agitated workers also caused several factories around the area to close down. The blockade has caused severe traffic congestion in the adjacent area. 

After joint forces spoke to the workers, they lifted the blockade and dispersed at around 11am.
