5 killed as boat capsizes in Sunamganj

Five people were killed as a boat capsized in the Boulai River at Jamalganj upazila in Sunamganj district on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Beauty Chakraborty, 40, Kalpana Rani Sarkar, 5o, Rudra Sarkar, 4 Ganga Rani Sarkar, 6, Joyita Sarkar, 6.

A child was also injured in the incident. 

Eyewitness and local Union Parishad member Debashish Talukder said after Saturday's haat at the upazila sadar, an engine-run boat was on its way towards Jamalganj with 70 passengers and a lot of cargo. The extra weight capsized the boat near the Noapara area. Many passengers were able to swim to land, but five of them died and one child was injured.
