Terrorists attack woman in front of her child, video goes viral

A group of assailants attacked Tahera Akhtar with a locally-made sharp weapon at Kazipara in Sultanpur village under Raozan municipality of Chittagong. 

Her college-going daughter, Sanjida Sathi, recorded the incident on her smartphone using a flashlight while Sanjida’s three-year-old sister cried and ran in panic. 

The video, uploaded to Facebook at 2:38 pm on Friday, went viral, totalling over 150,000 views by 2 pm the following day. 

The attack occurred on Thursday night, and Tahera, wife of Abdul Hakim, was first treated at Raozan Upazila Health Complex. She was later transferred to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital. 

Physician Srabanti Chakraborty from Raozan Upazila Health Complex noted that Tahera sustained a severe head injury from a sharp weapon. 

The video footage shows multiple attackers, with screams and intermittent torchlight revealing the assault. 

Officer-in-charge of Raozan Police Station Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said that Abdul Hakim filed a case on Friday night, naming three known and seven to eight unknown suspects. 

The primary suspect Golam Dastagir, 35, was arrested that night, he added. 

Police confirmed that the attack stemmed from a land dispute.
