Case filed against former SP, UNO, OC in Magura

Faisal Rumon, former Co-Organising Secretary of Magura District Chhatra Dal, filed a case with Magura Sadar Court against nine individuals, including former Superintendent of Police Khan Md. Rejoan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Sufian, and Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Md. Sirajul Islam.

The case also names SI Al Emran, SI Biswajit, Constable Partha Roy, Magura District Jubo League convener Fazlur Rahman, former district Chhatra League president Mir Mehedi Hasan Rubel, and Awami League worker Muraduzzaman Murad.

The lawsuit was filed on June 30 for alleged police torture following Rumon's arrest on a false case, resulting in 168 days of imprisonment without trial.

Magura Sadar Court Magistrate Md. Saiful Islam took cognizance of the complaint and, on July 1, ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate.

Rumon, son of the late Intaj Sikder from Bhayna village, Magura town, alleges that on August 18, 2018, he was arrested by Abu Sufian for posting images on Facebook mocking then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He claims the police subjected him to severe physical torture, causing permanent spinal cord and vertebral damage.

Following his arrest, a case was filed against Rumon with Sadar Police Station on August 19, 2018, leading to his 168-day detention without trial.

Rumon further alleges defamation damages of Tk 50 crore due to the fabricated case.

His lawyer, Kazi Minhaj Uddin, stated that the torture has left Rumon paralysed for life.

The court, after reviewing the case, accepted it for consideration and directed the CID to conduct a thorough investigation.
