Jubo Dal leader shot dead in Raozan

Md Selim, former member secretary of Kadalpur Union Jubo Dal, was fatally shot by assailants around 12 noon on Sunday in the Ishan Bhatt Hat area of Kadalpur Union under Raozan upazila in Chattogram.

Selim, son of Amir Hossain from Shamserpara (Ward No. 7), was a follower of Golam Akbar Khandaker, the convener of Chattogram North District BNP.

According to Selim’s cousin, Md. Riduan, the incident occurred after Selim attended his aunt’s Namaz-e-Janaza.

While riding a motorcycle with his wife, Ferdous Akhter, and daughter to buy medicine, 4-5 attackers, including two individuals wearing burqas, arrived in a CNG auto-rickshaw, shot Selim in the head, and fled.

Local residents rushed him to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead.

Ferdous Akhter recounted, “We were at Ishan Bhatt Hat Bazar to buy medicine after the funeral prayers. Two people wearing in burqas, in a CNG auto-rickshaw, shot my husband in the head and escaped. My daughter and I fell off the motorcycle. I recognized one attacker as Dama Ilyas and could identify the others if seen again.”

Locals suggested the attack might be linked to establishing dominance in the area, noting Selim’s involvement in Jubo Dal politics.

Raojan Police Station OC Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, stating Selim was shot in the Ishan Bhatt Hat area and declared dead at the health complex. His body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Since August 5, Raozan has seen 13 killings due to violence, with 10 identified as politically motivated. Clashes between BNP factions have occurred over 100 times, resulting in more than 300 people being shot.
