4 BGB platoons deployed in Gopalganj

A total of four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in Gopalganj after mayhem erupted centring a National Citizen Party (NCP) programme on Wednesday. 

BGB members have joined police and army members to bring the situation under control. BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the matter. 

A motorcade of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) leaders and activists was attacked after the party's rally at the Pouro Park concluded at around 2:30 pm. 

Ahead of the scheduled NCP rally, a police vehicle and a vehicle used by the Gopalganj UNO were torched and vandalised, respectively. Shortly before the rally went underway, the stage was also vandalised. 

The rally started shortly after 2 pm. Central leaders of the party delivered speeches.

In light of the situation, Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Kamruzzaman has imposed section 144 in Gopalganj indefinitely.
