Gopalganj violence: Death toll rises to 5

Another man who was shot during a clash at the Chourangi Ghat area of Gopalganj has died while receiving treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). As a result, the death toll in the Gopalganj violence has reached five. 

The man was identified as Ramzan Munsi, 28. He died at around 3am on Friday. 

Confirming the matter, DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md Faruq said the body is kept at the morgue. 

Ramzan Munsi was admitted to the hospital on July 16. According to his brother Hira Munsi, Ramzan was a rickshaw puller. He was caught in the mayhem and was shot while completing a trip at the ghat area. 

Hira Munsi claimed that his brother was not affiliated with any political parties. 

On Wednesday, more than 50 people, including police personnel, were injured in a series of clashes between AL, banned Chhatra League activists, and law enforcers over the NCP’s scheduled rally in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Of them, four people were declared dead that night, and those critically injured were shifted to several hospitals, including DMCH, from the district for advanced treatment.
