Gopalganj curfew relaxed for 14 hours

The curfew, which was imposed on Gopalganj after several rounds of mishap centring the National Citizen Party's (NCP) rally and march, was relaxed for 14 hours. 

Confirming the matter at around 11 pm on Friday, Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman said the curfew will be relaxed from Saturday, 6 am to 8 pm. 

Further decisions regarding the curfew will be taken after discussion with the law enforcement agencies. 

Section 144 was imposed on Gopalganj at first. Later on Wednesday, a curfew was imposed from 6 pm. On Thursday, the curfew was extended till Friday at 6 pm. The curfew was relaxed from 11 am to 2 pm for three hours. In the second phase, the curfew was extended till Saturday at 6 am. 

On Wednesday, more than 50 people, including police personnel, were injured in a series of clashes between AL, banned Chhatra League activists, and law enforcers over the NCP’s scheduled rally in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

Of them, four people were declared dead that night, and those critically injured were shifted to several hospitals, including DMCH, from the district for advanced treatment. Another man died while receiving treatment early on Friday.
