Child killed in Gazipur gas cylinder blast, parents injured

A 4-month-old infant, Abu Raihan, lost his life in a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur's Pubail Kamargaon area on Sunday morning. 

The child's parents, Ripon Mia and Hafiza Khatun, sustained severe burns and are receiving treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Ripon, a resident of Ghosh Para, Tarakandar, Mymensingh, had rented a ground-floor room in a three-storey building owned by Sajjad Hossain in Kamargaon Purba Para on August 1. 

The explosion occurred when Hafiza attempted to light the stove to heat water, triggering a fire that engulfed the room. Ripon, Hafiza, and their infant, who were inside, were severely injured. 

Local residents extinguished the fire and rushed the family to Ahsanullah Master General Hospital in Tongi before they were transferred to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, where doctors pronounced Abu Raihan dead.

According to Pubail Police Station OC Amirul Islam, Ripon has burns covering 70 percent of his body, while Hafiza has burns on 60 percent of hers.
