Batons charged at protesting teachers in Ukhia, 15 in police custody

Police have charged batons on a gathering of protesting dismissed teachers in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar and have taken 15 people, including student representatives, in custody. 

The incident happened at Foliapara on Wednesday morning. Protesters claimed that teachers dismissed from NGO jobs in various Rohingya camps were protesting peacefully at the side of the road. 

Traffic congestion formed on the road, and NGO workers' cars got stuck. On information, police came to the spot and charged batons on the protesters, injuring several of them. After they were taken to a hospital for treatment, student representative Zinia Sharmin went there to visit them. Police took 15, including Zinia, into custody. 

Confirming the matter, Cox's Bazar District Addl Police Superintendent Md Jasim Uddin told the Daily Samakal that protesters were dispersed to lessen the woes of people. The situation is now under control. 

On Monday, dismissed teachers blocked the road at Court Bazar Station area from 7am to 4pm, demanding their reinstatement.
