Death toll rises to 5 in Laxmipur bus accident

A local passenger bus fell into a canal in Laxmipur, killing five people. The incident injured four people. Police have said that five others remain missing. 

Confirming the matter, Chandraganj Highway Police Officer in Charge Mobarak Hossain said the accident happened at around 8:30am on Saturday. The Ananda Paribahan bus driver lost control of the steering in front of the Chandraganj Kafil Uddin Degree College in Laxmipur and drove into the Rahmatkhali Canal. 

Morshed Alam, 50, Joynal Abedin, 54, Humayun Rashid, 40, Ripon Hossain, 35, and Majed Hossain.  The bodies are kept at Noakhali General Hospital. Three of them died on the spot while two others died at the hospital. 

According to eyewitnesses, divers did not reach the spot even after hours of the incident. They also alleged that the Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot late, causing more casualties.
