5 held over attack on police at Nural Pagla shrine in Rajbari

Police have arrested five people in connection with an attack on police, obstructing authority, and damaging state properties at 'Nura Pagla's shrine at Goalondo in Rajbari.

The arrests were made on Saturday night. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area. The shrine still bears signs of vandalism and arson. 

According to police, a mob under the banner of "Iman Akida Rokkha Committee' marched towards Nurul Haque alias Nura Pagla's shrine. Local administration and police tried to stop them. However, the mob continued on their way and vandalised Goalondo Nirbahi Officer's car, Addl Police Super's car, and OC's car. They also injured five, including police and local administration. They then broke into Nural Pagla's shrine and caused vandalism and arson. At one point, they desecrated the man's grave and torched his body. 

Russel Mollah, 28, was killed during the attack. According to his family, he was first beaten with a hammer. After he was brought to Goalondo Upazila Health Complex, he was again attacked and died there. 

Police have filed a case in connection with the incident. Around 3,000 to 3,500 unnamed people were accused in the case.
