Constituency demarcation: Hartal underway in Bagerhat

The Election Commission (EC) has decreased the number of seats in Bagerhat in the recent demarcation. A hartal is underway in the district to protest the decision. 

The hartal, called by the Sorbodoliyo Sommilito Committee, is being observed from 8am to 6pm on Monday. The hartal also includes the obstruction of roads. 

As part of their activities, leaders and activists of the committee have used cars, logs, and benches to obstruct roads at around 20 important locations in the district. 

At around 8:45am, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahmed Kamrul Hasan was barred from entering his own office. He then entered the District Relief & Rehabilitation Office. 

Leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other parties are taking part in the hartal. 

The EC on Thursday issued a gazette notification publishing the final list of demarcation of the 300 parliamentary constituencies for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. In the final demarcation, the number of seats stood at 6 in Gazipur with the increase of one seat, while the number reduced to 3 in Bagerhat, with the decrease of one seat.
