2 killed in Dhaka's Dhamrai as pickup van falls in ditch

The driver of a pickup van lost control of the steering and hit a roadside tree before falling into a ditch. Two people, including the driver, died in this accident, while two others were injured. 

Both of the deceased were named Monir Hossain. Driver Monir Hossain, 35, was from Depashai Karabil village, and the driver's assistant Monir Hossain, 25, was from Chapil village in Dhamrai. 

According to police and fire service sources, four people including the driver were on board the pickup van. The van delivered poultry feed at the Dhantara bazar in Dhamrai and was returning to Savar's Jamgora area at around 1:30am on Monday. When they reached the Kandapotol area on the Paragram-Dhantara regional highway, the driver lost control of the steering and hit a tree first, then fell into a roadside ditch. The driver and his assistant died on the spot. Two others were rescued and admitted to the Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex. 

Confirming the matter, Dhamrai Police Station Officer in Charge Monirul Islam said the bodies of the deceased were already handed over to their families.
