Fire erupts in Ramesu Bazar during Khagrachari blockade

A fire broke out in Ramesu Bazar under Guimara Upazila of Khagrachari on Sunday afternoon, amid a blockade organised by 'Jumma-Chhatra Janata' protesting the gang rape of a hill girl. 

The blaze destroyed approximately 20 shops and adjacent houses. 

Eyewitnesses described the arson as a deliberate act by a group of 20-25 masked individuals who looted shops and homes before setting them ablaze, along with several motorcycles. 

Dwipayan Tripura, an organiser of 'Jumma Chhatra-Janta', said the fire incident occurred while a meeting with top government officials, including the Hill Track Affairs Adviser, was underway at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
