Hefajat leader dies in road accident, party blocks road in Ctg

Hefazat-e-Islam Central Committee member Mowlana Sohel Chowdhury died after a bus ran him over. Alleging that the death was a planned murder, the party has called for a highway blockade. 

As per the party, Mowlana Sohel Chowdhury was going to his workplace on Tuesday when a bus ran him over in Raujan. He was brought to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead. The leaders and activists took out a procession in front of the hospital immediately. 

Hefazat activists are observing the blockade at several places in Chattogram, including Hathajari, Raujan, Fatikchhari, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Manikchhari since early Wednesday. They have barricaded roads using wooden benches and burning tyres, halting traffic. 

Leaders of the party have called for punishment for those involved in the death and financial compensation for the family of the deceased. 

Confirming the matter, Hathajari Circle Addl Police Superintendent Kazi Tarique Aziz said they were in talks with the Hefazat leaders, and they will disperse from the roads.
