Fire disrupts Shahjalal airport: Eight flights diverted to Chattogram

A fire at the cargo terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has led to the closure of the airfield until 6 pm Saturday, causing significant disruptions to flight operations. 

As a result, eight flights have been redirected to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram by 5:00 pm.

Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer at Shah Amanat International Airport, confirmed that four additional international flights bound for Dhaka landed in Chattogram, including two from US-Bangla Airlines and two from Biman Bangladesh Airlines. 

Earlier, four flights—two domestic and two international—had also been diverted to Chattogram.

Authorities at Shah Amanat Airport report that operations are running smoothly, with all diverted flights landing safely and no passenger injuries reported. 

The fire, which broke out suddenly at Shahjalal Airport’s cargo village on Saturday afternoon, has intensified, leading to the suspension of all flight operations at the airport.
