Two killed in bike accident on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway

A motorcyclist and his co-rider were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Samiul Islam (27) of Nawabganj, Dhaka, and Emon Bhuiyan, son of Sentu Bhuiyan of Shekhar Nagar village in Sirajdikhan upazila.

The accident occurred around 10:30 pm on the service lane of the Dhaleshwari Bridge at Kuchiamora.

Police said Samiul Islam was riding a motorcycle (Dhaka Metro Law - 48-3224) from Dhaka to Mawa with Emon Bhuiyan as his co-rider.

When they reached the service lane on the Dhaleshwari Bridge, an unidentified speedy passenger bus hit the motorcycle from behind, causing the motorcyclist to lose control. Both Samiul and Emon fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries.

They were taken to Srinagar Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

ATM Mahmudul Haque, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, said the bodies were handed over to their relatives. Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the bus involved in the accident.
