Bus accident kills 1, injures 30 in Habiganj

One man died and 30 others were injured when a passenger bus lost control and overturned in Madhabpur Upazila of Habiganj district early on Monday. 

The deceased was identified as Badal Mia, 30, son of Paltu Mia of Birpasha village under Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district. The injured are also from the same area. 

According to the injured and eyewitnesses, they all went to visit a mazar at Chunarughat. They were returning on a 'Diganta Paribahan' bus. When the bus reached the Bezura area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at around 6:30am, a truck from the opposite side hit the bus. The bus fell into a ditch next to the highway, killing Badal Mia instantly and injuring others. 

The injured were taken to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex. Some people were referred to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment, said Dr Kamal Krishna, who works at the health complex. 

Confirming the matter, Madhabpur Police Station SI Pronoyel Chakma said the injured were rescued with the help of the fire service. The two vehicles were recovered, and traffic on the highway is back to normal.
