Covered van accident in Jamalpur claims four lives

A tragic accident occurred in the EPZ area of the Jamalpur-Tangail regional highway when a covered van collided with an easy bike, killing four passengers and injuring five others, including a child. 

The incident took place around 12:30 pm on Monday.

The deceased include Rashed Mia, a passenger who died on the spot, farmer Chan Mia from Titpalla village, Jamalpur Sadar upazila, Arifa Khatun, a master’s student from Uchch village, Sarishabari upazila, and an unidentified woman. 

Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Jamalpur General Hospital, where three of the victims succumbed to their injuries. 

The other injured were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Witnesses reported that the covered van, travelling from Jamalpur to Madhupur, struck the easy bike coming from the opposite direction. 

Locals seized the van, but the driver and helper fled the scene. 

Jamalpur Police Station OC Nazmus Shakib confirmed the casualties, stating that further action will be taken after reviewing CCTV footage.
