Four of a family injured in Cumilla gas line explosion

Four members of a family, including a woman and a child, sustained burn injuries in a gas line explosion in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the upazila headquarters during the early hours of Tuesday. The victims were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka around 6:00 AM. The injured have been identified as Monowara (60), Jil Haque (37), Umme Humayra (30), and two-year-old Hurram.

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the matter. He stated that four members of the same family from Daudkandi were brought to the emergency department in the morning with varying degrees of burns.

According to medical reports, Monowara Begum suffered 2% burns, while Jil Haque and Umme Humayra sustained 54% and 65% burns, respectively. The child, Hurram, suffered 6% burns. Dr. Rahman noted that the conditions of Jil Haque and Humayra are considered critical.

Abdul Hannan, a firefighter from the Daudkandi Fire Service, said, "We are currently at the scene. Fortunately, the fire did not spread extensively. It appears the explosion originated from a gas line leak." He added that a formal investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blast.
