4 killed as pickup van overturns in Habiganj

A pickup van lost control and overturned before plunging into a canal beside the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Andiura area of Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj, on Sunday morning, March 22.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of four people, including a woman and a 12-year-old child.

The deceased have been identified as the pickup driver Ibrahim, 35, originally from Shalla upazila in Sunamganj, Sajib,12, and Asma, 40, from Kishoreganj, along with one unidentified man.

According to SI A. Rahim of Madhabpur Police Station, the vehicle was travelling from Sylhet toward Kishoreganj when the driver lost control at night, causing it to veer off the road and fall into the canal.

Police received the information and recovered the four bodies from inside the submerged cabin in the morning.

The bodies—including those of the woman, the teenager, and two men—are being recovered and prepared for autopsy.

Efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victim, and necessary legal steps are being taken in connection with the incident.
