Daulatdia tragedy: 26 bodies recovered, identities confirmed

The 'Souhardya Paribahan' bus that plunged into the Padma River at Daulatdia ferry terminal in Goalanda, Rajbari, has been salvaged. So far, 26 bodies, including women and children, have been recovered from the site.

The deceased have been identified by the Rajbari district and police administration. Among them are Rehena Akter (61) and her son Ahnaf Tahmid Khan (25) from Bhavanipur, Rajbari; Soha Akter (11); Johura Anti (27); Kazi Saif (30); child Tajbid (7); Lima Akter (26); Sabit Hasan (8); Josna (35); Morjina Akter (32) and her daughter Safia Akter Rinthi (12); Faiz Shahanoor (11); Nazmira Jesmin (30) and her son Abdur Rahman (6).

Other victims include the bus driver Arman Khan (31); Morjina Khatun (56); Rajib Biswas (28); 3-year-old Israfil; Aisha Siddiqua (13); 7-month-old infant Arman; Mukta Khanam (38); Nasima (40); Aisha Akter Suma (30); Uzzal Sheikh (50); Ashraful (24); and Jahangir (55).

The bodies were handed over to their respective families from the Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue. Three others injured in the accident are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM last Wednesday when the bus fell into the river while boarding a pontoon. The vehicle had departed from Kumarkhali at 2:10 PM bound for Dhaka. Most of the passengers were returning to their workplaces after the Eid holidays.
