Pump manager allegedly killed by truck driver for failing to fill fuel

A petrol pump manager was allegedly killed after being deliberately run over by a truck in Narail district in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2:00 am near the Rail Bridge area of Tularampur Union in Narail Sadar Upazila. 

The deceased, Nahid Sardar, 33, was the manager of M/s Tanvir Filling and Gas Station located along the Jessore-Narail highway. He was the son of Akram Sardar from Perli village in Tularampur Union. 

Another person, Jihad Molya, 27, son of Zahur Ali from Chamrul village in the same union, was seriously injured in the incident and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to police and local sources, truck driver Sujat Molya, who is also from Perli village, arrived at the filling station to refuel his truck with diesel. When pump manager Nahid Sardar informed him that there was no fuel available at the station, an argument broke out between them. During the heated exchange, the truck driver allegedly threatened to run over the manager with his vehicle.

Later, at around 2:00 am, Nahid Sardar and his colleague Jihad Molya were returning to their village on a motorcycle after finishing work at the station. When they had travelled only about 100 yards from the pump, the truck driven by Sujat Molya approached them from behind at high speed and struck the motorcycle.

Nahid Sardar was killed on the spot, while Jihad Molya sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

CCTV footage from the filling station reportedly captured the sequence of events. It showed that the truck driver remained at the pump even after the argument. When Nahid and Jihad left the station on the motorcycle around 2:10 am heading towards their home, the truck was seen immediately chasing them at speed.

Tularampur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Sekender Ali confirmed the death of the pump manager and said that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the truck and its driver. 

He added that legal action will be taken once a proper investigation into the matter is completed.
