Body of missing child recovered in Manikganj, 2 brothers beaten to death

The body of a missing child was recovered in Manikganj, while two brothers were killed in a mob beating on suspicion of committing murder. 

Two brothers were killed and another person was injured in a mob beating on suspicion of murdering an eight-year-old child in Manikganj Sadar Upazila. 

The incident occurred on Thursday night in Banparil of Hatipara Union in the Sadar Upazila.

Locals reported that Dudul Mia’s daughter, Atika, went missing around 5 pm on Thursday. Immediately after her disappearance, the family publicised the matter on social media and conducted a search by announcing it through loudspeakers in the area. Despite an extensive search, she could not be found.

Later, at around 10 pm, locals discovered Atika’s lifeless body with her hands and feet tied in a corn field next to the house. When the news spread, grief and anger engulfed the area. The family believed that the child had been killed to rob her of her gold pendant and necklace.

Locals stated that, on suspicion of involvement in the incident, three people including a father and son were caught and beaten by a mob. Auto driver Pannu Mia, 35, and his brother Fazlu, 28, were killed. Pannu Mia’s son Nazmul, 20, was admitted to the Manikganj 250-bed hospital in a seriously injured condition.

After receiving the information, the Manikganj Sadar Police reached the spot at night and brought the situation under control. 

The Officer-in-Charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station, Md. Ikram Hossain, said that the bodies of the child and the two persons killed in the mob lynching had been recovered and sent to the Manikganj Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Legal action would be taken regarding the mob lynching, he said, adding that additional police had been deployed in the area and that the situation was currently under control.
